Power Factor Correction

Optimizing the Power of your Electrical System

Power factor correction (PFC) is a technique used in electrical engineering to optimise the power factor of an electrical system.

For large Commercial Solar Power Installations, Power and Water Corporation will need to assess your Power Factor. If it is deemed inadequate, you will need to install a Power Factor Correction Unit before any solar systems can be installed.

Eco Tech will provide you with the right technical support and knowledge to design and install the correct energy efficient PFC unit for your network. With our expertise and thorough understanding it will be effortlessly integrating it into your Solar Installation.

The power factor is a measure of how effectively electrical power is converted into useful work output in a system.

It is represented as a value between 0 and 1.

With 1 being the ideal power factor, this indicates all power is being used efficiently for useful work.

A lower power factor indicates that a portion of the electrical power is being wasted.

The main goal of power factor correction is to improve the power factor of a system, typically by reducing the reactive power (VARs) and increasing the active power (Watts).

Here you can see after the PFC unit was commissioned, the 3 phases of power have a power factor of 0.98, 0.98 and 0.99 respectively. This indicates a healthy and excellent PF.
